Super Mario Sunshine is un-speed-playable.

In retrospect, I would say that this was a rather poor choice of a game for speed play. The 2D Mario games have warp worlds and such that allow one to streak through the game in about 10 minutesit takes 10 minutes just to get through this game's opening cut scenes *grumble grumble*. Even SM64 has tons of glitches and shortcuts for beating it in under a half hour. This game, however, is the epitome of linearity. You can't do shines out of order, you can't skip them (except for the first one in Bianco Hills), and you don't even get to pick what shines you collect (you need the 7th one in each level). And this game just isn't conducive to shortcuts, like SM64there aren't any items like the caps or shell (not to mention the cannon, which alone provides infinite possibilities), and the replacement of the long jump w/ fludd also eliminates many opportunities. And let's not even go into the fact that at least a quarter, closer to a third, of the entire run collection is made up of cut scenes. Oh well, enough complaining.
Thanks to Alex Penev for listing several good shortcuts on his website (The Ferris Wheel Shine in Pinna Park and Goopy Inferno) and Stefan Mahrla for his helpful vids (Bloooper Race and Scrubbing Sirena Beach). Otherwise, I did this w/o any collaboration, so there are probably several shortcuts and other points of strategy that I overlooked. There aren't any MAJOR mistakes, but there are a few sloppy bits as well as some shines which were marred by randomness and/or bad luck (the first half of "Secret of Casino Delfino" is just ridiculous, and I had bad luck on the coral reef red coin shine in Gelato beach, with one particular coin going into the reef wall a couple times).
A note about the Piantissimo racesthese aren't optimized to near world record potential, mainly because two of the 3 world record strats require making special setups in the levels before starting the race. And more importantly, it doesn't affect the overall time, since you don't get the shine until Piantissimo finishes the race (the sooner you get to the flag, the longer you wait).
You'll notice that, after each level, I return to the starting location in Delfino Plaza before saving and quitting. This is to avoid conflict with the SDA No Warp Saves rule. Well, this is the only speed run of this movie available, so it should, hopefully, provide some entertainment until something better comes along. Enjoy.

Theory Suggestion: Who is the the mastermind behind Mario's rampage and the TRUE villain of the Mushroom Kingdom?

If you're subscribed to this page, then you have no doubt seen multiple episodes tackling the Mario universe, from Mario's ASPD to Bowser's mob schemes and Princess Peach's apparent death. After so many theories about the Mushroom Kingdom, you'd think we'd have enough. But we can never have enough, because MARIO. After playing through some more games, I noticed something, and began to look into it, and found a heaping pile of evidence pointing towards the only person who could possibly gain from Mario rampaging through the Mushroom Kingdom, murdering Toad and Goomba alike. But let's take a step back first into exhibit A: Super Mario Sunshine.
I'm sure all of you have either played or seen Sunshine, so I'll skip a formal summary. The most important parts come in at the different times: the very beginning, the confrontation of Bowser Jr., and the final boss fight. Starting with the final boss fight, we are thrown into a bathtub in space with Bowser, Bowser Jr., and Peach. When Mario first appears, Bowser says "How DARE you disturb my family vacation?" Not intending to fight Mario in the first place, we can safely assume Bowser is not meant to be the true villain of the game. During the confrontation of Bowser Jr. at Pinna Island, he shows off his Magic Paintbrush, invented by the same person who invented F.L.U.D.D. However, Bowser Jr.'s quest only involves bringing back his "mama," Princess Peach, but during the ending admits he knew she wasn't his mama. What was Bowser Jr.'s motive then? It all involves the one man rich enough to produce crazy inventions and the one man smart enough to see how all the pieces of the Mushroom Kingdom puzzle fit together:
Professor Elvin Gadd.
Now why would we consider E. Gadd of all people to be the mastermind of the Mushroom Kingdom? Let's consider the facts: 1. Bowser Jr. acquired the Magic Paintbrush from him somehow, but since E. Gadd has seen Mario before, he wouldn't fall for the Mario disguise. Plus, Bowser Jr. said the old man in the white coat "gave it to him." If Bowser Jr. stole it, he would've said so, this isn't exactly a dramatic game folks. 2. F.L.U.D.D. says "Thank you for purchasing this item from Gadd Science, Incorporated." Gadd clearly owns his own business for selling his various inventions. 3. Gadd studies ghosts for a living. If we assume that all of the monsters that are killed in the game have a ghostly afterlife, Gadd should have plenty to study. 4. King Boo, a boss in the Hotel Delfino Casino, was added as a painting in Luigi's Mansion. How could he have escaped? Gadd also "indirectly" causes King Boo to be freed once more in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon by selling him in a garage sale. 5. Why does Gadd study ghosts? Two reasons, possibly. a. Like in Luigi's Mansion, he can create pieces of art from the ghosts. He could possibly sell these for a very high price, and use the money to create more gadgets. b. He's an old man who exists in the same universe as a young man who seems to have infinitely many lives. Studying life after death, Gadd may be looking for the secret to immortality and eternal youth that Mario and Luigi seem to have.
From what we can assume, Professor E. Gadd is a crooked old man, swindling coins away from the Mushroom Kingdom in order to finance his dream of immortality by studying the ghosts of the enemies Mario has killed. But what can MatPat uncover?
Please vote up if you think this is a good suggestion
